What is HUPMI?

HUPMI is an organization of Mennonite business people and professionals in Indonesia. It was established following the economic crisis in 1998. The persons involved must be members of a Mennonite church.

Its vision is to "make your light shine, so that others will see the good that you do and will praise our Father in heaven" Matthew 5:16. HUPMI's stated mission is to strengthen the Indonesia Mennonite churches through increasing the economic well-being of the church members. The networking that happens through HUPMI among the small, medium, and large companies help them survive.

HUPMI activities include:
  • Being a bridge between local and international business persons,
  • Conducting seminars of interactive dialogues.
Through the HUPMI program micro businesses in Indonesia are growing and expanding. These businesses share opportunities and do business together. HUPMI acts as an "aid" to support the needy church members develop their businesses. HUPMI's realization of synergy is based on professionalism and business savvy among Mennonite business people. The financial support from the members to the local church is increasing.

A small business fund was established in 2000 as one of HUPMI's activities. The fund provides micro credit for micro enterprises. By July 2003 more than 50 micro enterprises had been supported. Various businesses assisted with the fund include such businesses as a home cake industry, small book store, restaurant, motor service station, computer typing services, beauty salon, wild animal hunter, oil shop, etc. The sources of funding are received jointly (50/50) from Michiana MEDA and HUPMI members.

HUPMI is willing to become a facilitator to share the blessing of its existence to other Mennonite communities all over the world. HUPMI's realization of synergy is based on professionalism and business likeness among Mennonite business people.
